During my solo trip through North America last year, I had the opportunity to stay in beautiful North Carolina. The Southern State is home to friendly locals, historical architecture and spectacular beaches. You will enjoy your next stay when you choose one of these independent North Carolina hotels.

5 great North Carolina hotels

O. Henry Hotel, Greensboro

For a Greensboro hotel with a bed and breakfast feel, choose O. Henry Hotel. Its 131 rooms include custom furnishings, soundproofing, dressing rooms and original art. For added convenience, they also each have coffee making facilities, cable television and microwaves. Furthermore, O. Henry Hotel features an outdoor pool, fitness centre and beautiful gardens. Drop into the onsite restaurant, which offers Southern cuisine, afternoon tea and complimentary breakfast. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Friendly Shopping Centre Village, University of North Carolina campus and Greensboro Coliseum.

Sonesta ES Suites, Charlotte

Sonesta ES Suites Charlotte Arrowood is in a very convenient location. Within six miles, guests will find the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services office, the Carowinds Theme Park, as well as the York Road and Park Road Community Parks. The hotel features both fitness and business centres, which are open 24 hours a day. There’s also an outdoor pool and free breakfast daily. Meanwhile, each room at the hotel includes a kitchen with a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave and dishwasher. Pets are allowed (for a fee), as long as they weigh under 50 pounds.

Alpine Village Inn, Blowing Rock

For a small, cozy and family-owned affair in Blowing Rock, check out Alpine Village Inn. There are fifteen standard rooms and each is furnished with antique wares and colourful quilts. The inn also has two suites, which are located away from its main building. These have wonderful inclusions like mountain views, fireplaces and jacuzzis. The Alpine Village Inn is a very affordable accommodation option in Blowing Rock, as rooms begin from $60US a night. It’s also located downtown, so guests do not have to venture far to enjoy the town’s many restaurants and shops.

Millennium Hotel, Durham

For a budget yet comfortable stay in Durham, choose the Millennium Hotel. This hotel ticks a lot of boxes, with room rates starting from $93US a night. There’s a large indoor heated pool, 24-hour business centre and dry cleaning service. There are also three dining options at the Millennium Hotel: Bel Gusto Restaurant for Italian cuisine, Varsity Bar and Grille for American fare, and the Lobby Bar for drinks. The hotel can be found close to the Rhine Research Centre Museum, Duke University Chapel and Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

There’s definitely a top independent hotel in North Carolina to suit everyone and every budget. Therefore, make your next stay in the South an independent one.
